NBN

What is being proposed for SE NSW!

We get asked a lot of questions about the NBN.

Q.   Is the NBN is going to fibre up my place?

A.   Well, only if you are in Canberra, or Bungendore, Braidwood and Yass.  Outside of these townships, the NBN intends to provide 12mbps via either wireless or satellite.  On the 30th July 2010, NBN released indicative coverage maps for NSW.  Yless4u has overlayed the NBN coverage map for the ACT region onto a topographic map.  This gives you a better idea of what you are likely to receive when the NBN finally gets around to doing something in this region.

Outside of the villages of Bungendore & Braidwood, NBN proposes to provide a fixed wireless service. The maps indicate a 15kms radius to be served from a NBN tower site.  Outside of the proposed fixed wireless coverage area, NBN proposes to use satellites to cover the remainder of the population.  ( See images below).

Some interesting facts:-

- The satellites have not been launched as yet.

- The indicated fixed wireless coverage is a gross overestimate of the actual real-world coverage.  It does not account for topography, and in this region, numerous hills & valleys will obstruct the signal from reaching a high proportion of premises that are supposedly within the NBN indicated coverage beam.
